Dataset description

The physical natural gas and oil reserves in this table are in line with stocks as listed in the Annual Report on Delfstoffen and geothermal heat in the Netherlands, compiled by TNO on behalf of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate. In 2018, a substantial revaluation of the physical gas reserves took place in the Groningen field. The reserves consist of the quantities of natural gas and oil found in the Netherlands which are proven and commercially and socially viable, plus quantities of which extraction is plausible in the future. The starting position of the reserves is 1 January and the final position is 31 December. Definitions and figures are in line with the Petroleum Resource Management System used by TNO since 2013. Because of the connection with conventions in mining, reserves are discussed rather than stocks as in the RIP report. The table is part of the environmental accounts. The environmental accounts quantify the relationship between the economy and the environment. In order to achieve a consistent statistical description of this relationship, environmental accounts are aligned with the classifications and definitions of the national accounts. As a result, environmental figures from the environmental accounts deviate from the environmental figures elsewhere on CBS website in a number of cases. Data available from: 1987 Status of the figures: The figures for the last year in this table are provisional, all previous years are final. Changes as of 31 August 2021: The preliminary figures for 2020 have been added. When are new figures coming? The new figures come annually in the autumn.
