Dataset description

This dataset contains all road sections from the National Roads file (NWB) at reference date 01-01-2017. The NWB Wegen file is a digital geographical file of all roads in the Netherlands. Included are all roads managed by road managers such as the State, provinces, municipalities and water boards, but only to the extent that they have a street name or number. Thus, loose foot and bike paths and unpaved roads are included in the NWB-Wegen, if provided with a street name. If a road has separate lanes, which is especially the case with Rijkswegen, these are processed as separate road sections in the file. The NWB Wegen file currently consists of more than 158,000 hectolitres and more than 1 million digitised road sections with a total length of nearly 158,000 kilometers (measurement 2020). The NWB Wegen file is updated monthly. As of 1 July 2020, the residence names and municipality names are in the NWB BAG Compliant. This means that the spelling of the names is written according to the official spelling. The Basic Registration Addresses and Buildings (BAG) was introduced in 2009 and public authorities have a user obligation to use this registration when carrying out their task. So is the NWB. So far, the NWB used the NEN spelling for residences and municipality names. The names were made unique and residences were written in capital letters. In the BAG it is possible that a residence name with the same spelling occurs in different municipalities. This structure is taken over in the NWB and is therefore the same as the BAG. To get used to this adjustment, a new column has been added to the NWB (column WPS NAME) for the BAG spelling. The residence name according to the old spelling, remains the WPSNAME column and has been moved to the last column. Eventually, this last column (WPS NAMES) will disappear, the expiry date will be specified. We therefore advise you to use the WPSNAME column from 1-7-2020. More information and news about the NWB can be found at https://nationaalwegenbestand.nl/ Representatives of municipalities, provinces, water boards and Rijkswaterstaat have started designing and organising the cooperation around the NWB. As part of this further development of the NWB, we are happy to get in touch with you, the NWB user.
