Dataset description

The table provides insight into the number of persons with social security benefits. These persons may be resident in the Netherlands and abroad. These include persons with disability benefit, unemployment, old age, assistance and assistance-related benefits. Persons benefiting from disability, unemployment, assistance and assistance-related benefits are available from 2007. The number of persons receiving an old-age benefit is shown in the table from 2013. It is possible that a person is entitled to multiple benefits. These can be benefits of the same kind (e.g. two benefits under the Wet op de incapacity insurance (WAO)) or benefits of different types (such as a benefit under the Unemployment Act (WW) and a social assistance allowance). In the latter case, the person is included in both types of benefits. In the first case, only once (at the WAO). In the total counts, of course, the person is counted only once. The numbers are broken down by different regions in the Netherlands and refer to the last day of the reporting period. Figures on the number of people with benefits per neighbourhood, district or municipality may differ slightly from figures published elsewhere on StatLine, by using the latest data from the Basic Persons Registration (BRP). Because different StatLine tables are updated at different times, it may happen that for one table a different version of the BRP is used than for another table. In that case, the latest published figures are the most accurate. The figures refer to the last day of the reporting month. Status of the figures The figures from 2007 to March 2020 are final. The figures from April 2020 are provisional. Changes as of 16 May 2022: The provisional figures from July to September 2021 are added. When are new figures coming? New figures will be released in July 2022.
