Dataset description

Natura 2000 sites as of 11 September 2008 (Habitats Directives, Birds Directive Areas, nbwet areas). The European Union has a very varied and rich nature, which is of great biological, aesthetic and economic value. In order to preserve this nature, the European Union has taken the initiative for Natura 2000. This is a coherent network of protected natural areas. For the Netherlands, there are a total of 162 areas. These Natura 2000 sites indicate the Netherlands at the moment. In 2007, the draft decisions of the first 111 Natura 2000 sites (tranche 1) and the draft decisions of the 7 Natura 2000 sites in the wadden area (tranche 2) were available for inspection. Between 11 September and 22 Oct 2008, the draft designation decisions for the next 29 areas will be available for inspection (tranche 3). This stock indicates the limits of tranche 1, 2 and 3 areas on the reference date 11 September 2008. For the remaining 15 sites, tranche 4, this dataset contains the 2003 boundaries in relation to Habitats Directive sites and the 2005 limits in the case of Birds Directive sites. On 19 February 2008, the Minister finally designated the first three areas: Voornes Duin, Dunes Goeree & Evil Corner and Voordelta. For these areas, the external border is included on the basis of the cadastral border. Purpose of manufacture: The file is intended for policy making, monitoring, evaluation and accountability by the Nature Management Board, use by other organisations involved in nature policy and individuals.
