This table is about court criminal cases registered with a public prosecutor’s office, on which the Public Prosecutor’s Office (OM) has taken a decision and cases settled by the court of first instance. The data can be broken down by type of suspect, migration background and age at the time of committing the offence. The decisions taken by the Public Prosecution Service are divided according to the type of decision. The court decisions are divided by type of final decision and type of sanction. The cases joined by the judge at the hearing to another case have not been taken into account as a settlement.
The table concerns personal data on the subject of prosecution and trial. The personal data relate to the characteristics of the suspect/convicted person in a case. The figures also relate to the related issues. The table is not unique at person level. First, individuals in this table can appear several times in one year if they are accused/convicted in several cases in that year. For example, a person may be a suspect in several cases that enter the Public Prosecutor’s Office in a year. Secondly, it is possible that a person’s case may be counted in several phases within a year; for example, if the case flows into the Public Prosecutor’s Office in the same year if the Public Prosecutor makes a decision in the case.
Data available from 2001.
Status of the figures:
The figures are final.
Changes as of September 2021.
Figures for the year 2020 have been added. The figures on the court’s settlements in 1st instance for reporting year 2019 were not correct. Something went wrong with the registration of penalties and measures. This has been corrected in this version.
The figures on the number of decisions of the Public Prosecutor’s Office (OM) for reporting years 2018 and 2019 were incorrect. Decisions taken following an imposed criminal order in 2017 were mistakenly counted. This has been corrected in this version. At the overall level, the number of decisions of the Public Prosecution Service for 2018 was 1.7 % too high and 0.7 % too high for 2019.
When are new figures coming?
The figures for 2021 will be published in the summer of 2022.
