Dataset description

This table provides information on the average distances for the residents of the Netherlands from their home address to the nearest facilities (e.g. school, general practitioner or library). In addition, the table also includes information on the number of facilities located within a certain distance from the residence address. This data has been calculated as an average for all persons in the area. The data are available at different regional levels. The lowest level is the municipality. Data available from: 2006 Status of the figures: The figures in this table are definitive. Changes as of October 2021 As of the reporting year 2020, the CBS is provided with the population of general medical practice in a different form than before: the secondary addresses of general medical practice are no longer part of the population. As a result of this change in the source files, the results from reporting year 2020 are no longer comparable to those of previous years. An analysis for reporting year 2019 on the effect of omission of the secondary addresses shows that the distance to the nearest GP practice at national level increases by 0.1 km. At local level, the distance can be extended to 7 km in certain regions. Figures for the reporting year 2020 have been added on the following topics: Health and well-being — Pharmacies — General practitioners’ posts — General practitioners’ practices — Hospitals (including outpatient clinics) — Hospitals (excluding outpatient clinics) Retail trade — Department stores Hotels and restaurants — Cafes and the like — Hotels and the like — Restaurants Education — Primary education — Secondary education * Total * VMBO * HAVO/vwo Traffic and transport — Train stations — Switching stations Leisure and culture — Attractions — Museums — Performing arts — Poppodia — Saunas — Sunbeds — Swimming pools Other — Fire stations Changes as of February 2021 In the current version of this table, the figures for the train stations and switching stations for reporting year 2019 have been revised as a result of a clean-up and correction action of the source files. The CBS has recently been provided with ProRail’s spatial files, which makes it possible to determine the location of stations more accurately than before. As a result, the results from reporting year 2019 are no longer comparable to those of previous years. At national level, the average distance to train stations has not changed compared to the previous version. The distance to switching stations has increased by 3 kilometres on average. At lower regional level, the differences may be greater. Figures for the reporting year 2012 have been added on the following topics: Greenery facilities — open natural terrain total — open dry natural terrain — open wet natural terrain — recreational inland water Figures for the reporting year 2016 have been added on the following subject: Leisure and culture — Poppodia Figures for the reporting year 2017 have been added on the following topics: Employment: number of jobs — A-U all economic activities Agriculture, forestry and fisheries — B-F Industry and energy — G-N Commercial services — O-U Non-commercial services.
