Dataset description

This table contains emission factors for road-vehicle exhaust gases, covering emissions of substances that have an impact on air quality at life level and for which legal standards apply when type-approval of road vehicles. Emission factors represent emissions per unit of activity, in this case per kilometre travelled. They are used in the calculation of emissions from road traffic (see paragraph 3). The emission factors shown here are valid for the year 2009 and are broken down by vehicle category and year of manufacture of the vehicle. Legal standards for type-approval of passenger cars with regard to air pollutants in exhaust gases are in force from 1973 onwards. Cars that do not meet these (European) standards may not be placed on the market. Initially, the standards could be met by improving the engine technology. Continuous tightening of standards necessitated the use of catalysts. The latest reinforcements date from 1992 (EURO1), 1996 (EURO2), 2000 (EURO3) and 2005 (EURO4). Since 1992, Cars have to meet the same requirements as passenger cars. Effective exhaust gas standards for heavy-duty vehicles were introduced in 1988. These standards have now been tightened several times. The EURO4 standard was in force in 2005. A further tightening took place in 2008 (EURO5). Status of the figures: Final figures. Changes compared to the previous version: N/A This is a new table of emission factors for the calendar year 2009. When are new figures coming? The publication of the road traffic emission factors as a StatLine table was discontinued in 2010. For the most recent emission factors, please refer to the table set attached to the methodology report for the calculation of emissions from mobile sources in the Netherlands. This report is updated every year.
