Dataset description

The load-bearing card identifies areas that are highly-position-sensitive and extremely sensitive for South Holland concepts. Load capacity indicates the extent to which the substrate is sensitive to setting, i.e.: the lowering of the ground. The soil composition and the use of space determine this; the weight of buildings and the abstraction of groundwater increases the chances of setting. The bearing capacity of sand is known as firm, of clay as sensitive and of peat as weak. Given that South Holland consists of more than three-quarters of weak soils, the province is largely above average settlement sensitive compared to other provinces.
