Dataset description

This table gives an overview of the social protection benefits in the Netherlands. This includes social security benefits, statutory social security benefits, pension insurance benefits, social benefits paid directly by employers and direct public services to families. Benefits can be provided both in kind and in cash. Protect social protection benefits against a group of risks or meet needs. These risks and needs are divided into nine functions. In addition, the social protection benefits are represented on the basis of five criteria and eleven underlying categories. These classifications have been drawn up in the framework of the European System of Social Protection Statistics (ESSPROS) programme. The aim of this programme is to increase the international comparability of social protection statistics. The “Education” function is not considered social protection in the context of ESSPROS. In order to give as complete a picture as possible of social protection in the Netherlands, the function in this table is shown. Finally, the benefits are classified according to the sectors which provide the benefits. The distributions are attributed to the period during which the rights for the transaction arose (transaction basis), and not to the period in which the transaction actually took place (cash basis). This is linked to the accounting rules of the European System of Accounts (ESA 95). Data available from 1994 to 2012. Status of the figures: The figures for the period 1994-2010 are final. The figures for 2011 and 2012 are (further) provisional figures. As this table has been discontinued, the data will no longer be definitive. Changes as of 10 April 2015: None, this table has been discontinued. When are new figures coming? No longer applicable.
