Dataset description

This table provides data on all registered and apprehended suspects of a crime registered during the reporting year and the registered and apprehended suspects who have a residence address in the Netherlands, by gender, age group, migrant background and generation. The table shows the number of suspects of crime per population group for both the residents of the Netherlands and for all suspects in absolute figures. The relative figure is calculated per 10 000 persons in the selected population. Personal data of persons who are not residents of the Netherlands is often missing. These persons are included in the absolute figures, but not in the relative. Data on registered suspects will be available from 2005. Due to the disappearance of the Recognition Service Systems (HKS), figures on detained suspects are available from 1999 to 2014. Status of the figures: The figures until 2019 are final. The figures for 2020 and 2021 are provisional. Preliminary figures give an underestimation of the final number of suspects. The provisional number of suspects in the most recent year is a few percent lower than the final number. Changes as of March 2022: The figures for the number of suspects registered for the year 2021 have been added. The figures for the number of suspects registered for the years 2019 and 2020 have been adjusted by compliance with information. When new figures will be available: New figures for the registered suspects for the previous year will be available at the beginning of 2023. In 2022, the CBS will reclassify the population by origin. The word migration background and the Western/non-Western classification are no longer used. The new classification of origin is gradually introduced in tables and publications, including this table.
