THE CITY: Magnet, ROLTRAP AND SPONS, Population developments in city and city-west The Hague

The big cities in the Netherlands are growing. There seems to be an acceleration of this population growth in recent years. The migration to the city by young people has increased and the departure from the city has decreased. With the construction of the Vinex districts, young families have continued to live in the city increasingly. This report aims to feed the government’s Agenda City with insights from recent population developments in urban regions, and identifies some challenges and dilemmas for the policy towards cities and urban regions. After all, urban growth and development depend mainly on the choices made by young people and young adults in terms of their household formation, their place of residence and their employment career.
