Dataset description

This table shows the total number of kilometres travelled by the Dutch population aged 6 years or older in private households, i.e. excluding residents of institutions, establishments and homes. The transport performance consists of passenger kilometres of regular journeys plus series transfers on Dutch territory including domestic holiday mobility. The part of the transport performance related to regular passenger-kilometres has been determined on the basis of journey information. The total transport performance is broken down by regions and modes of transport. Only kilometres travelled on Dutch territory count. This means that in the case of cross-border movements only the part is counted on Dutch territory. Therefore, kilometres travelled abroad have not been taken into account. Nor are the kilometres of (professional) road transport with a heavy freight vehicle included in the figures. The figures are calculated with the research Onderweg in the Netherlands (ODiN). This is the successor to the research relocations in the Netherlands (OViN; 2010-2017). The ODiN has changed significantly in relation to the previous OViN in several respects and the investigations are therefore not closely comparable with each other. Data available from 2018. Status of the figures: The figures in this table are final. The amendments as of 8 July 2022. The 2021 annual figures have been added. The amendments as of 10 February 2022. As a result of a revision of the ODiN files, the transport performance for the years 2018, 2019 and 2020 has been revised upwards, in particular in the case of ‘Personenwagen as a driver’ and ‘Other mode of transport’. When are new figures coming? The figures for the 2022 research year will be published in mid-2023.
