On 1 July 2012, a legislative amendment to the Environmental Management Act brought into force the noise production ceilings (GPPs) for main railways and also for national roads. GPPs set a clear limit over the permissible amount of noise and prevent unhindered noise growth due to increasing traffic. The GPPs, source data and relevant decision information are included in the so-called Sound Register.
The sound register track has been unlocked. The following are included in this Sound Register:
•All calculated GPPs at the reference points;
•The status of the GMPPs;
•The source data used for the calculation of the GMPPs;
•In time, the realisation values as reported by the infrastructure manager per calendar year.
The Sound Register is supplemented on the basis of decision-making under Chapter 11 Environmental Management Act, so that it is the most up-to-date representation of the valid GPPs and source data. The sound register can therefore be adjusted on a daily basis — theoretically. In today’s practice, this is much less common (necessary).
