Dataset description

This table contains figures on the benefit status of young people aged 15 to 27, who were resident in the Netherlands on 31 December of the reference year by sex, age, migrant background and living situation. The benefit status of young people is divided into benefits or not. It also includes the types of benefits relating to unemployment, incapacity for work and social assistance and welfare benefits. The total number of young people receiving benefits in this table is lower than in regular StatLine tables on persons receiving benefits because young people do not live in the Netherlands or whose place of residence is unknown are not included in this table. The number of young people receiving benefits in this table is also lower than in the Labour Market situation of young people (15 to 27 years old); region 2018. This is due in particular to the fact that this table sets an exact reference date (31 December) while in the table Labour Market situation young people (15 to 27 years old); region 2018 has been checked if someone had a benefit somewhere in the month of October. For the tables referred to above, see paragraph 3. A young person is entitled to several benefits. These may be benefits of the same kind, for example two benefits in the context of incapacity for work, or benefits of different types, such as unemployment benefit and social assistance. In the latter case, the young person is included in both types of benefits. In the first case, only once in the case of invalidity benefits. In the total counts, the person is counted once. As a result, the sum of the categories is not equal to the total number of young people receiving benefits. Data available from: 2007 Status of the figures: These are final figures. Changes as of 8 December 2021: The figures for 2020 have been added. In order to mitigate the effects of the coronavirus crisis, the Temporary Bridging Scheme (Tozo) was in force since 1 March 2020. The Temporary Bridging Scheme for Independent Entrepreneurs (Tozo) provides self-employed entrepreneurs with an additional subsistence allowance or a loan for working capital to address liquidity problems caused by the coronavirus crisis. Self-employed entrepreneurs can receive an amount from this scheme to supplement their income to the social minimum. The first part of the Tozo expired at the end of May 2020, but the scheme was still in force by the end of 2020. The Tozo is considered to be an assistance-related benefit, which significantly increased the number of persons receiving assistance-related benefits in 2020. Changes as of 13 December 2019: The figures for 2018 have been added. For 2016, an earlier version wrongly included young people who had died on 31 December of the year. As a result, the figures for the total number of young people and young people without social security benefits corrected. For 2017, the figures on AO benefits for the months of January to March were based on estimates. These have been corrected after delivery of the correct messager files. Furthermore, the underlying codings of the classifications used in this table have been adjusted. These are now in line with the standard encodings established by the CBS. The structure of the table has not been adjusted. Changes as of 30 October 2018: For 2017, the figures for young people aged 15 to 27 for the benefit positions ‘Unemployment’, ‘Assistance and assistance-related’ are ‘Employment-related’; incl. Wajong', 'Wajong' and 'No benefit' corrected. The numbers were mixed up. The same applies to the figures for young people aged 15 to 27 (relative). Changes as of 7 May 2018: As a result of an improvement in the methodology, the figures for young people with disability benefits have been recalculated for the years 2013 to 2015. Moreover, as of 2015, the figures for the new Wajong 2015 scheme have been included. The revision does not have an impact on the other figures of young people receiving benefits, but on the total number of young people receiving benefits. Figures for 2016 have also been added. When will there be new figures? The 2021 figures will be published in spring 2022.
