Dataset description

The Safety Monitor (VM) is a biennial population survey on safety, quality of life and victimhood. Attention is also paid to nuisance in the neighbourhood, disrespectful behaviour, prevention measures, the functioning of the police and municipal security policy. As a result, figures are obtained in a clear way about the (experience of) security at both national, regional and (lower) local levels. In this table, the perception of (in)security by the citizen is central. It is about the safety experience in your own neighbourhood, in your own place of residence, and in general. The issue of disrespectful behaviour is also discussed. The data are shown for the personal characteristics of gender, age, marital status, migration background, educational level, sexual orientation and also for the total. The Safety Monitor is a sample survey. This means that the figures shown are estimates, for which reliability margins apply. These margins are also included in the table. The figures refer to persons aged 15 years or older, unless otherwise stated. The survey was conducted in the period August-November. Due to changes in the questions and in the research design, the results of the Safety Monitor (VM) cannot be easily compared with those of previous victim surveys, such as the Integrated Security Monitor (IVM); 2008-2011) and the Safety Monitor Rijk (VMR; 2005-2008). For more information see section 4. Sources and Methods included research description Safety Monitor as of 2012. Data available from 2012 to 2019 Status of the figures: The figures in this table are final. When are new figures coming? No longer applicable. This table is followed up by the table ‘Social safety’; characteristics. See paragraph 3.
