Dataset description

CBS collects data on victims in the context of the statistics on safety. This table gives an overview of the forms of assistance provided to victims of crime and road accidents. The data comes from Victim Assistance Netherlands. This is a national foundation divided into 13 regional offices and 75 offices. 1500 volunteers and 250 professionals offer practical and legal advice and emotional support. The Netherlands aims to provide first reception and guidance to victims of crime and traffic accidents. In addition to the first reception and guidance of victims, Victim Assistance Netherlands is committed to the interests of victims of crime and traffic accidents in general. Victim support not only provides support to victims, but also to witnesses, stakeholders, relatives and causers. Data available from 2001 to 2006. Status of the figures: The figures for the years 2001 to 2006 are final. Changes as of 31 March 2017: None, this table has been discontinued. When are new figures coming? No longer applicable. Stop reason: In January 2007, Slachtofferhulp Nederland (SHN) switched to output control. This means that agreements have been made with the Ministry of Justice on the services to be provided by SHN. In the years before 2007, only agreements were made on the number of assisted victims. Until 2007, what happened was recorded, but from 2007 it was recorded which service was offered. In concrete terms, this means that the three main categories — namely emotional support, legal guidance and practical services — are still used, but that the subdivision by activity that existed in the past has largely ceased. This table is followed by Clients of Victim Assistance; type, crime, origin, age and gender, see paragraph 3.
