Dataset description

The Safety Monitor (VM) is a biennial population survey on safety, liveability and victimisation. Attention is also paid to nuisances in the neighbourhood, disrespectful behaviour, prevention measures, the functioning of the police and the municipal security policy. This provides clear data on the (experience of) security at both national, regional and (lower) local level. This table focuses on the victimisation of common crime in the 12 months preceding the investigation. These are traditional crimes such as violence, property crimes and vandalism, as well as cybercrime. The data are presented for the personal characteristics gender, age, marital status, migrant background, educational level, sexual orientation, and also for the total. The Security Monitor is a sample survey. This means that the figures shown are estimates, for which confidence margins apply. These margins are also shown in the table. The figures refer to persons aged 15 or over, unless otherwise stated. The survey was carried out between August and November of the reporting year. Data available from 2012 to 2019 When will there be new figures? No longer applicable. This table is followed by the table 'Social security; personal characteristics’. See paragraph 3.
