Dataset description

Waterway network The Netherlands (VNDS) is the selection of navigability for each port, waterway or part of a waterway is assigned a so-called navigability class. This dataset has been designated as an As-Is source for EU targets. The classification for those classes is based on the dimensions of standard ships and pushsets. The Conference of European Ministers of Transport (CEMT) presented a classification for navigability in 1992. In classes I to VII a class 0 was added for the Netherlands, for waterways less than Class I. Class VII was not taken over: push shipping with nine bins does not occur in the Netherlands. The classes are based on the following things: — length and width of the vessel (the largest thruster). — width and depth of the waterway. — works of art (shake length, width, threshold depth and height of lift doors and/or fixed bridges). — any (sharp) curves in the waterway. The following classes are recognised: 0 Small vessels and recreational craft I Spits II Kempenaar III Dortmund — Eemskanaalschip IV Rijn — Hernekanaalschip, Eenbaksuwstel Va Groot Rijnschip, One-bake thruster Vb two-bake thruster (long formation) VIa two-bake thruster (wide formation) VIb Four-bake thruster VIc Six-baked thruster
