Dataset description

This table contains figures on the well-being of the adult Dutch population, in terms of happiness and satisfaction with life. The figures are based on the Permanent Study on Living Situation (POLS) and Social Cohesion & Welfare (S & S). The POLS ran from 1997 to 2010 and S & W runs from 2012. The figures are broken down by gender, age, highest educational attainment and migrant background. In order to make the figures of both studies comparable, a time series model has been estimated. On this basis, the figures from POLS have been adjusted so that the trend break with the figures from S & W has been repaired. This allows the time series to be displayed from 1997 onwards. No observation took place in 2011. The figures for that year have still been estimated, but as a result there are no confidence intervals available for 2011. In the statistical years 2020 and 2021, the observation of the Social Cohesion and Wellbeing Survey was disrupted by the coronavirus crisis. In part of the year it was not possible to conduct interviews at home and so only came in via the internet and telephone response. In order to cope with this, the social cohesion and well-being survey’s weight model has been adapted for the years 2020 and 2021. Time series models were used to correct for the loss of part of the observation. As a result, the figures have been made as comparable as possible to those of previous years. Data available from: 1997 Status of the figures: The figures in this table are definitive. Amendments as of 18 March 2022: The 2021 annual figures have been added. When will there be new figures? Figures for reporting year 2022 will be published by mid 2023.
