Dataset description

Overview of areas designated for the extraction of sand and gravel at sea on the basis of the Deforestation Road. Sand and gravel may be extracted on the North Sea — seaward from the continuous NAP -20 metres in depth. Sand extraction is even an activity of national importance. This layer also contains the licensing area for the (trial-winning) of shells. It is a strip of 50 km seaward from the GLLWS coastline, excluding the front delta and a strip formed by LLWS-5 m to the coastline from Hoek van Holland to Petten and a strip formed by the 3 mile border from Petten to Ameland. An environmental impact report has been prepared for large-scale sand extraction in the North Sea. This EIA defines search areas for the period 2018-2027. In the future, these search areas will (partly) be used as licensed sand extraction areas.
