Dataset description

In case of heavy rain, the water on the streets can be so high that certain parts of the road become impassable for passenger cars, or even for emergency traffic such as ambulances, police and fire brigades. This map shows which roads are only for calamity traffic or no longer passable at all after an extreme shower of 100 mm in 2 hours. For this analysis, only the roads of the urban area were taken into account. Build-up Roads are classified as “moving” (green) if there is a maximum water depth of 10 cm. For water depths between 10 and 30 cm, the roads are classified as “passable for calamity traffic” (yellow). This means that the road is no longer accessible to ordinary traffic. If there is step-by-step driving and no bow wave is created, calamity traffic can use the road. In theory, this certainly applies to the vehicles of emergency services that are higher on the wheels. Roads with water depths of 30 cm and more are “impassable” (red). The main pathways are shown thicker. Accountability This card has been used: » National Roads File (NWB); » TOP10NL (the basic digital topographic file of the Land Registry); » 3Di (model toolbox for water calculations). In the modelling, only the current over the ground is often taken into account; drainage through the sewerage and open water is often not included. It is therefore possible that the bottlenecks presented may not always be recognised in practice (to that extent). No rights can be derived from absolute values. The results give a first indication of the likely degree of vulnerability of buildings in case of heavy rainfall.
