The thermal energy from surface water from watercourses and ponds (EOW) can be used in combination with Heat and Cold Storage Systems (WKO) for the sustainable heating of buildings. For this purpose, a pumping system with a heat exchanger will be installed in the vicinity of the customer to extract heat from the water in the summer with a small temperature difference (-3 °C). This heat (15-25 °C) is stored in the groundwater of the WKO which makes it available in winter and can be used for heating using a heat pump. By smartly integrating this pumping system into the existing water system, benefits can be gained in water quality (running and cooling) and freshwater supply.
The dataset describes the economically viable potential of thermal energy from surface water in relation to current heat demand corrected for soil storage capacity for SAC expressed in suitability classes (moderately suitable, reasonably suitable, suitable, highly suitable, excellent) of a location within a radius of 100 meters of watercourses and lakes.
