Dataset description

This stock contains the habitat types of Habitats Directive Area Liefthingsbroek, based on the 2013 vegetation map. A habitat map shows exactly where a protected type of nature occurs in a Natura 2000 site. As no birds are protected in Habitats Directive sites, the map is limited to habitat types and habitats of species from the Habitats Directive. In Birds Directive areas only habitats of species are on the map. The habitats currently rectified concern only nitrogen-sensitive habitats. The maps are made for, among other things, the management plans and the granting of consent (Wet Natuurbescherming). The maps form the objective basis for this. The establishment of habitat maps is the responsibility of the competent authority: the provinces and (for the large waters) Rijkswaterstaat (RWS). The basis for habitat maps is vegetation maps. The preparation of these vegetation maps is outsourced by provinces and RWS, mostly to landowners, who re-contract it to (independent) mapping agencies. The vegetation maps are processed into a habitat map by means of a nationally agreed method of translation and interpretation. The competent authority shall ensure that, in accordance with the arrangements, this is done in an objective manner. An inter-administrative validation process is also taking place, in which a number of habitat mapping experts carefully assess the maps and make suggestions for corrections where necessary. For the final establishment of a map, provinces and RWS are responsible, so not the owners of the nature reserves.
