Dataset description

This stock contains the wood-singel areas that are located in the Southern Westerkwartier, a region in the province of Groningen. Wood slings, alder slings, hawthorn hedges and woodwalls are line-shaped plantings with trees and/or shrubs. In wood slings, the composition of trees is varied, alder slings consist mainly of alder and hawthorn hedges from hawthorns. These elements often form boundaries of parcels or are partitions with a different function, originally as a livestock barrier. Roughly two types can be distinguished: plantings that stand on an artificial earthen waltz (woodwall) and plantings that are at the same height as the surrounding land (woodsingel). Characteristic of the Southern Westerkwartier is the enclosed wood-single structure and the pingo ruins present in it. The wood spools are under pressure due to an increase in scale in agriculture and the lack of sufficient maintenance. The pingo ruins threaten to lose their value by, among other things, deep ploughing, leveling and shifting from soil. For the development and maintenance of the wood singel structure in the Southern Westerkwartier, a distinction is made in sub-areas. The following categories are distinguished, preservation girdles, recuperation girdles, (re)development girdles, conversion girths for agriculture, conversion girdles for nature and passive management. Rules of the game are drawn up per category. In order to protect the characteristic wood-single structure and the pingo ruins present in the Southern Westerkwartier, Article 4.38 rules are included.
