Dataset description

From 1 January 2019 to 1 July 2021, qualitative and quantitative data was collected in a research project entitled ‘An innovative network-based approach to study and enable well-informed Decision-Making among TurkIsh- and Moroccan-Dutch women regarding Cervical Cancer screening: the FEMININE study’. Three different studies (Phase I, II and III) were carried out. In Phase I, qualitative data was collected and six focus groups were carried out, three among Turkish and three Moroccan-Dutch women. The goal was to find out how and why Turkish and Moroccan-Dutch women aged 30-60 make the choice whether or not to participate in the population screening of cervical cancer. In Phase II, quantitative data was collected through a questionnaire. Information has been collected from Turkish and Moroccan-Dutch women aged 30-60 on demographic factors, previous participation in the population screening of cervical cancer, making the choice whether or not to participate in the population survey (‘decisional conflict’), reasons for participating or not in the population survey, knowledge about the population survey and the self-deduction set, attitude to the population survey and the self-taking set, the intention to participate or not in the population survey and the preference to do so through the smear or self-collection set. The aim was to determine to what extent Turkish and Moroccan-Dutch women make an informed decision and which determinants are underlying it. In Phase III, a randomised intervention study was carried out using an online questionnaire. Participants were randomised over a control group (only got to see the current information leaflet) or an intervention group (a combination of the current information leaflet and a culture sensitive video can be seen in their chosen language). The aim of this study was to evaluate whether and to what extent the film developed on the basis of Phase II was able to help women make an informed decision regarding the population examination of cervical cancer. Information was collected from Turkish and Moroccan-Dutch women aged 30-60 on demographic factors, previous participation in the population screening of cervical cancer, knowledge about the population survey and the self-deduction set, attitude to the population survey and the self-deduction set, the intention to participate or not in the population survey by means of a smear or the self-purchase set and the size of the social network. Finally, participants were asked to forward the questionnaire to women in their social network.
