The protection of cultural historical values is important because they are irreplaceable. The regulation therefore includes cultural historically valuable areas with buildings and/or complexes of buildings and/or historical geographical elements, patterns and structures from a provincial perspective. For the designated areas, the values and characteristics are described on the Cultural History Value Chart. The areas can overlap with the urban area.
The regulation requires the municipality to include protective rules in the zoning plan in order to preserve the essential characteristics and values of those areas. And that developments take this into account so that the values and characteristics are not affected. In areas where urban development is contemplated by a municipality, this means that early consultation is necessary so that these provincial interests are involved in planning development from the outset.
