The dataset consists of a network of nodes and branches of the water distribution network. This network consists of the Dutch surface water in the main water system of Rijkswaterstaat and part of the regional water system under management at water boards and provinces. The network is used to simulate the supply and demand of water in the main water system for drought analysis. Buttons represent volumes of water, but also: locations where watercourses come together; locations where water-related activities take place (discharge, extraction); edges of the system considered (North Sea, Wadden Sea). Water flows from one knot to the other through a branch. The branch represents a possible restriction for the exchange of water between two knots. Branches (see Figure 3) are defined with a direction; in Figure 3, the arrow indicates the direction of the downstream node. This does not mean that this is the only possible direction of flow. Each branch has two characteristics: — the capacity of the branch in the upper current direction and — the capacity of the branch in the lower current direction.
