Dataset description

The map shows how much nitrogen dioxide (in kg per km²) is emitted. This is visualised in planes of 1 km² at 1 km². Nitrogen dioxide is released when combustion of fuels. Nitrogen dioxide is therefore mainly released in industrial processes, mobility and gas heating. It is striking that a very large part of the province of South Holland has NOx emissions of 0-500 kg per year (relatively few). Since NOx is mainly caused by combustion of fuels, it is not surprising that the port in Rotterdam and the motorways/airways on the map show the most emissions.
