This map layer shows the regional flood defences in the province of South Holland.
Regional flood defences are a collection of non-primary flood defences, such as bosom quays, canals and regional rivers and dry compartmental barriers, which are designated in the provincial regulations and for which a safety standard is laid down. The designation as a regional barrier is determined by the importance and function of the barrier, often on a regional scale.
The level of protection (standard) of a regional flood defence is also determined on the basis of the economic damage that may occur in the event of the failure of the flood defence.
In the past, it has been shown that it is difficult to keep the cards up-to-date. The laymen of the water boards give a much more up-to-date and accurate picture of the exact location of the flood defences. Therefore, for the exact location of the barrier, reference is made in the environmental regulation to the ridge established by the water board.
