Thanks — Use and need for freshwater for various functions: Gap for level management in average year

Fresh surface water is used for a number of purposes, including for managing the level. The water level is kept at a certain height in order to limit the oxidation of peat and the sounding of clay as much as possible, so as not to let natural areas dry and thus not allow valuable nature to dry irreparably, so as not to allow dikes to dry out (as a result of which they may become unstable). For this water demand, the total amount of water that can be supplied and the final shortage of fresh water for this purpose has been determined within the ‘Delta Fresh Water Programme’. The results can be presented for 5 subareas in which the Netherlands is divided into the sums implemented by DP Freshwater. (numbers in m³/summer half-years).
