Dataset description
Every four years, all GGDs in the Netherlands collect data on the health, well-being and lifestyle of young people through the Health Monitor Youth. This large-scale digital questionnaire survey takes place among pupils in classes 2 and 4 of regular secondary education. All GGDs carry out the research in a uniform manner in the same year. GGDs use the same digital (basic) questionnaire for this. This makes it possible to compare the results at national, regional and local levels. The basic questionnaire includes questions relating to mental and physical health, resilience, confidence in the future, happiness, stress and resilience, (cyber) bullying, sexting, smoking, drinking and cannabis use, exercise and social media and gaming. In 2019, the Youth Health Monitor was implemented nationally for the second time; the first time took place in 2015. An additional measurement of the Youth Health Monitor was carried out in autumn 2021: the Corona Health Monitor Youth 2021.
Corona Health Monitor Youth 2021 (N=166.786):
In 2021, an additional measurement of the ‘Youth Health Monitor’ and RIVMs was carried out in the framework of the JOR-COVID-19 Integrated Health Monitor by the GOR Network: the Corona Health Monitor Youth 2021. The network GOR consists of GGDs, GGD GHOR Netherlands, RIVM, the NIVEL and ARQ National Psychotrauma Center. The Corona Health Monitor Youth 2021 concerns pupils in classes 2 and 4 of regular secondary education. In all GGD regions, all 2nd and 4th graders were invited to participate. After merging all regional files and cleaning up the data, the file contains data from 166.786 young people. The management of the Corona Health Monitor Youth 2021, GGD and RIVM’s file lies with the RIVM. All 25 GGD @-@ regions have contributed to prevalence rates at national, regional and municipal levels.
Youth Health Monitor 2019 (N=171.192):
In 2019, the ‘Health Monitor Youth, GGD’ and RIVM’ was carried out for the second time. These are pupils in classes 2 and 4 of regular secondary education. The size of the samples differed by GGD region. After merging all regional files and cleaning up the data, the national database contains data from 171,192 young people. The management of the ‘Health Monitor Youth 2019, GGD’ and RIVM’s file lies with the RIVM. All 25 GGD @-@ regions have contributed to prevalence rates at regional (GGD @-@ region) and national level. In 19 GGD regions, all 2nd and 4th graders were invited to participate in the questionnaire survey, so that prevalence figures for municipalities are also available in those regions.
Health Monitor Youth 2015 (N=96.919):
In 2015, the ‘Health Monitor Youth, GGD’ and RIVM’s was carried out for the first time. These are pupils in classes 2 and 4 of regular secondary education. The size of the samples differed by GGD region. After merging all regional files and cleaning up the data, the national database contains data of 96.919 young people. The management of the ‘Health Monitor Youth 2015, GGD’ and RIVM’s file lies with the RIVM. All 25 GGD regions have contributed to prevalence rates at national level. In addition, prevalence rates at regional level (GGD region) are also available in 14 regions. In 9 of those 14 GGD regions, all 2nd and 4th graders were invited to participate in the questionnaire survey, so that prevalence figures for municipalities are also available in those regions.
