Dataset description

The data set shows nature type localities mapped according to the Norwegian Environment Agency’s instructions. Habitats prioritised for mapping are red-listed habitats and habitats with central ecosystem function. The type and description system Nature in Norway is used to document the academic content. Each location is given an ecological quality, based on state and biodiversity. The individual location consists of one type of nature, which is described in the instructions. The habitat type has a definition in the form of one or more possible mapping units in NiN, possibly in combination with certain description variables (defining variables). The ecological status of the site is recorded using a set of description variables that are defined as relevant to the habitat type in question. Elements of alien species and traces of heavy vehicles are examples of such variables. Based on step values for the variables and rules in the methodology, an overall assessment of the condition is set. Similarly, the locality is assessed in terms of biodiversity. Biodiversity is primarily assessed on the basis of the findings of specific species and findings of biologically important living environments. The assessment of state and biodiversity forms the basis for providing the site with an overall assessment of ecological quality; Location quality. Related to state and natural diversity, textual information is also provided.
