Bergen municipality publishes the city council’s proposals for budget and financial plan as open data, where you can make your own compilations of the content of the operating and investment budget. Excel and open format Bergen municipality publishes the data base for the financial plan for 2016-2019 as open data. The data is posted in machine-readable format such as Excel files and semicolon-separated CSV files. CSV is a format that can be shared across different technological platforms. The data contained in the files are no more detailed than those found in the budget documents printed or posted on the municipality’s website. Changes along the way The budget is a living document. This means that the city council’s first recommendation to the budget is finally approved, changes will be made. The details and the concrete allocation of the budget in service locations, such as nursing homes and schools, will only be clear in March. Bergen municipality wants information about the municipality’s budget to be as easily accessible and as open as possible for residents and other interested parties. This is important for the sake of democracy and that the municipality manages large resources on behalf of the community.
