Dataset description

The Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) is an initiative by former British Prime Minister Tony Blair to increase transparency about payment flows within the petroleum and mining industry. Since 2003, Norway has actively supported this initiative politically and economically. The EITI has developed a set of principles for transparency and good governance that also requires active participation from civil society. A number of countries, companies and organisations have joined these principles. Furthermore, there is a set of criteria that must be met by the countries that choose to implement the EITI. Norwegian EITI figures for 2009 are published in XLS format at regjeringen.no. Read more about what EITI is on the theme pages at regjeringen.no.
