Dataset description

The Meteorological Institute’s data and products are freely available through different services and in different formats. Examples of weather data that you find available from the Norwegian Meteorological Institute are weather forecasts, climate data and Norwegian radar images. There are few restrictions on the use of data produced by the Meteorological Institute. However, we require to be named as a source and the reason for this is that we are very keen to get feedback on whether there are any errors in the data base. All our data is therefore licensed with CC BY 4.0 https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ or under the Norwegian Public Data License (NLOD). api.met.no, our most popular download service, is an interface with a selection of data. More information about the different data sets and terms of use can be found in the documentation on the website. The Norwegian Meteorological Institute has a collaboration with NRK on the website yr.no. There you can also find weather data, which with a few exceptions, are the same ones that are available on the Meteorological Institute’s service api.met.no. Climate data and observations are data on how the weather has actually been and these can be found from frost.met.no. If you want to use entire data fields across larger areas we have the service thredds. At thredds.met.no you will find atmospheric data, ocean and wave data in NetCDF format and downloadable via OPeNDAP. In cooperation with the Norwegian Space Centre, satellite observations are also provided via satellites.no
