Dataset description

The Charter of Building Areas is a product of the Soil Occupation Monitoring System (SMOS), an innovative initiative, designed and developed by the Directorate-General of the Territory, with the objective of continuously producing cartographic information on land use and occupation. SMOS uses the latest developments in space technologies and Artificial Intelligence to create products with more detail, quality, speed and made available with open data policy. All products can be viewed on vismos (https://smos.dgterritorio.gov.pt/vi-smos). This product represents the built areas of mainland Portugal. These areas were delimited and classified based on the Classical Residential Buildings Database 2011-2019 (INE) and selected artificialised territory classes from the 2018 Land Use and Occupation Charter (COS) (DGT). The classification of the areas built according to the number and type of buildings they include gave rise to three categories: Areas with 10 and more residential buildings; Isolated or scattered areas (may contain 1 to 9 residential buildings); Non-residential areas. This dataset was developed by DGT under the POSEUR-02-1810-FC-000504 project. Additional information about this dataset and its attributes is available at: please contact us at https://geo2.dgterritorio.gov.pt/info/CartografiaAreasEdificadas2021_DGT_POSEUR_Visualizador_junho2022.pdf. If you are not familiar with the provision of spatial data through visualisation services (e.g., WMS) and download can be found in the Support Guides on the open data page of DGT (https://www.dgterritorio.gov.pt/dados-abertos).
