Dataset description

Quarterly evolution of hospitalisation rate and mortality rate, by region, gender and chapter of the main diagnosis of ICD9CM/ICD10CM/PCS. Hospitalisation rate and mortality rate, considering: * Year and quarter high; * Region of the Hospital Institution; * Sex of the user; * ICD9CM/ICD10CM/PCS main diagnostic chapter code and description. **Observations:** Calculated taking into account Ordinance 207/2017, the scope of analysis of Statistics and type of Internal production. The data result from the clinical coding performed by hospitals in ICD9CM/ICD10CM/PCS after patient discharge, and there may be a greater delay in this coding in some institutions (which may result in a temporary decrease in reported episodes). Administrative and clinical coding records are the sole responsibility of each hospital institution. The institutions presented correspond to the institutions present on the ACSS Benchmarking Hospitals website (Groups B, C, D, E and F, https://benchmarking-acss.min-saude.pt/BH_Enquadramento/GrupoInstituicoes). Main diagnosis ICD9CM/ICD10CM/PCS refers to the diagnosis that, after discharge from the user and the complete study of the hospitalisation episode, is considered (in the seat of clinical coding) as the cause of admission of the user to hospitalisation.Clinical coding ICD9CM/ICD10CM/PCS does not correspond to the classification of causes of death in terms of death certificates.
