SRUP — Classified Property

Servitude and Restriction of Public Utility (SRUP) — Classified Real Estate, in force in mainland Portugal. The constitution of servitudes and restrictions of public utility related to Classified Property follows the regime provided for in the law, being inserted within the scope of the Building Heritage. Immovable property, in its categories of monument, assembly or site, classified as a national monument or as an immovable property of public interest, is evidence of the particular importance of national civilisation, identity and culture, and it is fully justified that they are subject to special protection and valorisation. The law lays down the regime for classifying immovable property of cultural interest, as well as that of its protection areas and the detailed safeguard plan. They integrate cultural heritage all properties with cultural value. Properties with cultural value are those which, from the historical, archaeological, artistic, scientific, social or technical point of view, are particularly remarkable for their antiquity, authenticity, originality, rarity, uniqueness or exemplarity, and therefore must be subject to special protection and appreciation. The legal protection of immovable cultural property is based on their classification and inventory. The classification of immovable property takes place in categories and is also classified according to the degree of their cultural interest. The classification of an immovable cultural property imposes restrictions of public utility on the property and administrative services on the surrounding area.
