Dataset description

Servitude and Restriction of Public Utility (SRUP) — Water Public Domain, in force in mainland Portugal. The Water Public Domain is a servitude and restriction of public utility, being inserted within the scope of natural resources — water resources. The establishment of administrative servitudes and restrictions of public utility related to the Public Water Domain follows the regime provided for in the applicable legislation. The Public Water Domain consists of the set of assets which by their nature are considered to be of public use and of general interest, which justify the establishment of a special regime applicable to any use or intervention in the plots of land located in the seabeds, streams of water, lakes and ponds, as well as their margins and adjacent areas in order to protect them. On the other hand, it is also important to safeguard the values related to fishing and port activities, as well as national defence. All ground or surface water, its beds and margins and maximum infiltration zones, adjacent areas and protected areas shall be considered to be water resources. Generally speaking, they are considered to be dominial or belonging to the public water domain, the beds and shores of sea waters and navigable and fluctuable waters. The delimitation of the beds and margins of the public water domain confined to land of other nature is the responsibility of the State, either of its own motion or at the request of the interested parties. The delimitation is homologated by Resolution of the Council of Ministers and published in the Diário da República. The geographical information provided through the respective web services was produced by the DGT and other official entities, from information legally deposited in the National Territorial Information System (SNIT) concerning the delimitation of servitude of the Water Public Domain.
