Dataset description

Decree-Law No 6/2009 of 6 January 2009 establishes the system for the placing on the market of batteries and accumulators and the system of collection, treatment, recycling and disposal of their waste, repealing Decree-Law No 62/2001 of 19 February 2001 and Ordinances Nos 571/2001 and 572/2001 of 6 June 2001. The Decree-Law was corrected by Rectification Declaration No 18-A/2009 of 6 March 2009 and amended by Decree-Laws No 266/2009 of 29 September 2009, 73/2011 of 17 June and 173/2015 of 25 August 2015.According to that legal framework, end-users are obliged to deliver the waste portable batteries and accumulators they hold, the separate collection network of portable batteries and accumulators, consisting of these collection points, is structured from the combination of:·municipal, inter-municipal and multi-municipal systems, created under municipal waste collection tasks·Distributors, which ensure the recovery of portable battery waste and accumulators·Other collection points installed by one of the licensed managing bodies, in particular, in health facilities and schools, distributors of portable batteries and accumulators are obliged to accept the return of their waste, regardless of their chemical composition and origin, free of charge for end-users and without having to purchase new batteries or accumulators. To that end, they are required to have at their premises specific containers for separate collection of waste portable batteries and accumulators in a well-identified and accessible place.
