Preparedness for evacuation in the event of a nuclear accident, 2012

Although the probability of a nuclear accident is low, it is the responsibility of every community living and operating in the vicinity of a nuclear installation to prepare for this possibility. To this end, a survey was carried out on the preparedness of the population, institutions and companies to evacuate in the event of a nuclear accident living or operating in settlements located in a three-kilometer belt around JEK. A field survey was conducted among residents and 12 in-depth interviews among leaders in larger companies and institutions. The main objective of the research is to obtain as objective results as possible on evacuation preparedness in the Municipality of Krško and on this basis to make recommendations that can contribute to improving planning and action in the event of a possible nuclear accident, in particular the rapid and effective declaration and execution of the evacuation.
