Dataset description

The underground geothermal conditions, regardless of the location of aquifers, are represented by suitable geothermal maps. This map represents the expected temperatures at a depth of 500 m and is constructed from 354 wells. It is constructed on the basis of the measured temperatures in accessible wells throughout the country. However, since the temperature field depends on the geological composition in depths and tectonic characteristics, the course of isotherms is the result of numerous influences such as thermal conductivity of rocks, permeability and cracking of rocks, all of which are reflected in measured well temperatures. However, the distribution of wells, which were useful for temperature measurements, is very uneven and varies in depth. After temperatures at a depth of 500 m, there is a stronger positive anomaly in the north-eastern part of Slovenia, mainly between Maribor and Murska Sobota, and at Lendava and in the smaller eastern part of the Krško basin. In the north-eastern part of the country, this is due to the thinner Earth’s crust and the higher conductive heat flow from the Earth’s mantle.
