Dataset description

The computerisation of the Arcillas del Guadalquivir database responds to the need to computerise existing documentation on clay materials in the Guadalquivir Valley. In order to carry out this task, a work programme was followed which was based on the following points: — Prior collection of information and selection of the computerised system. — Collection and analysis of information. — Database design The most important documentary centres dealing with the subject were visited for the collection of information. Among the most significant are those of the Instituto de Cerámica y Vidrio, Instituto Tecnológico y Universidades de Madrid, Sevilla, Huelva and Granada.A multitude of Spanish and foreign magazines, scientific works, research projects, etc. were reviewed. It is noteworthy as one of the most important ones on which this database has been based, the project carried out by ITGE, entitled ‘Study for the industrial exploitation of the clays of the Neogen de la Guadalquivir Depression’. Of this project, the geological map has been digitised as a graphical basis and has been the main source of the database. This is an updated inventory of clay in the Guadalquivir Valley, summarising all previous research work, compiling and updating farm data and indicators, while thoroughly studying all clay-containing formations and analysing and technologically testing the most interesting clay clays. The draft of the database of Arcillas del Guadalquivir was carried out by the Compañía General de Sondeos, S.A. for the Junta de Andalucía on behalf of its Mining Service.
