Dataset description

The Hydrogeological Map of Spain continuous and in digital format at 1:200,000 scale is made from the lithostratigraphic map and permeability of Spain, continuous at 1:200,000 scale and represents the lithostratigraphic levels mapped, grouped by range of permeability and associated lithologies, and represented with a certain color and tone, so that it is possible to visualise on the map the areas associated with the different aquifers. Blue colors represent porous aquifers, fissured or karst green aquifers and browns represent impervious or low permeability formations. Productivity is represented by tone, in the case of permeable formations, dark tones indicate greater productivity and in the case of waterproof formations indicate greater impermeability. For the elaboration of the Hydrogeological Map, once verified that on the lithostratigraphic map and permeability of Spain were differentiated cartographically the formations that constitute the main aquifers, proceeded to the elaboration of a hydrogeological legend, grouping them according to their permeability, geometry, hydraulic relationship and hydrogeological operation. This work was carried out taking into account the existing information of the different aquifers in Spain as well as groundwater bodies defined in accordance with the Water Framework Directive (WFD). The Hydrogeological Map of Spain continuous and in digital format at 1:200,000000 scale arises from the need for a continuous map of the entire national territory on which to capture the information and distribution of the bodies of groundwater (m.a.s). This mapping is adapted to the hydrographic network and shadow model made by CEDEX, on a 1:20,000 scale, from the topographic base, on a 1:50,000 scale, of the Army Cartographic Service. The cartographic information refers to coordinates in projection UTM, Datum Europeo, spindle 30, except for the Canary Islands that is related to spindle 28. The Hydrogeological Map consists of a polygonal layer of cartographic units (LPLIT) and the external tables Hidro.dat and Descrip_hydro.dat. The format of the generated information is Shape file.
