Dataset description

Fishing and maritime traffic related pressures are considered as sources of marine litter from the sea. No information is available on other activities. The areas with the highest density of fishing vessels (i.e. the areas with the highest number of VMS records) are defined, as well as the areas with the highest density of merchant vessels (AIS), adding the signals received from both sources on each cell (transforming the VMS data to signals emitted every 5 minutes, to make them comparable with the AIS).
