Accumulation of pressures that may cause pathogens to enter the South Atlantic Demarcation (EM SUD PRE Pathogens)

In the joint analysis of the pressures that may facilitate the entry of pathogens into the sea, wastewater discharges, aquaculture facilities and mollusc farming areas, bathing areas and rivers (which can also provide wastewater loads) have been considered. Ballast waters have not been included in this analysis. In order to identify areas of potential pathogen entry, an index has been developed on the basis of the following criteria applied to meshing: — Presence of a sewage plant less than 5 km — Presence of an aquaculture facility or mollusc area — Presence of the mouth of a river less than 2 km — Presence of a bathing area less than 500 m Each factor is assigned a value of 1, scoring twice the treatment plants that have an obligation to report to the State Registry of Emissions and Pollutant Sources.
