The Mapping of the distribution of wild bird species responds to the Commission’s legal obligation to regularly assess progress in the implementation of the Directives, based on monitoring and reporting by Member States.
The measures adopted under the Birds Directive (Directive 2009/147/EC) aim at the long-term conservation of wild bird species through measures to conserve, maintain and restore the diversity of wild birds and the surface of their habitats.
