Dataset description

Web map display service, according to the WMS-OGC standard, which covers the theme of geographic grid system (item 2, Annex I of the INSPIRE Directive: GGS — Geographical Grid Systems). As in the case of reference coordinate systems, this issue is not so much about the development of a data set but rather concerns the adoption of basic agreements for the use of a common geographic grid system for all INSPIRE participants. Given the obvious connections, this topic has been addressed by the same working group dedicated to CRS. Their decisions were based both on the “Map projections for Europe” workshop held in December 2000 and on the European Reference Grids workshop in October 2003. They propose as a multipurpose grid of European scope one based on Lambert’s equivalent azimutal projection over ETRS89, with center at point 52° North, 10° East and with false coordinates x = 4 321 000 m (east), and = 3 210 000 m (north). Many sectors use geographic grids as a method for quick location. The document cites some of the following: GEOREF for air navigation, the military UTM grid, etc. Spain has not officially defined a grid of this type such as that of several countries of the European Union, although if there is a cut of leaves for official mapping based on the National Topographic Map 1:50.000 of the National Geographic Institute (Royal Decree 1071/2007, of 27 July, regulating the official geodetic reference system in Spain).
