Dataset description

Each boundary line between the municipalities is registered in the Central Registry of Cartography (RCC) according to its Registration Sheet. The associated legal documentation is constituted by a Demarcation Act with the operation carried out, to recognize the boundary and indicate the landmarks carried out by the Municipalities involved and the IGN. The technical documentation is made up of the field notebooks of the topographical surveys carried out and the plans of the time. The geometry responds to the interpretation of the legal titles registered in the RCC: limit line acts, administrative resolutions, judicial sentences, etc. Some lines or sections of lines may be "provisional", that is, they lack a legal title that guarantees their geometry and therefore their representation in the cartography only obeys the topological necessity of closing municipal polygon. The registration of the municipal boundary linein the RCC, consisted after its creation by Law 7/1986, of Cartography Management, in registering the current geometry published in the official cartography of the National Topographic Map together with the legal title that endorsed it in that moment. To do this, a process of digitalization of the limit lines was carried out using various printed cartographic sources, and with this the basis of the geometry was constituted. As a result of this, in general, they have a geometric uncertainty of around 40 meters, according to experience and comparison with specific specific works carried out by the IGN The exception to the above are those lines in which a series of technical and administrative works required by current state or regional regulations for the demarcation of municipal terms have been carried out, which has allowed the inscription of a more precise geometry. In the Valencian Community, according to Law 2/2020, of December 2, of the Generalitat, of geographic information and of the Valencian Cartographic Institute, it is a function of the ICV, in accordance with letter e) of article 4.2 of, the elaboration and the maintenance of the municipal map, which consists, in accordance with article 41.1 of the same law, in the recovery of the limit lines of all the municipalities of the community. These works consist of locating of the milestones that determine the boundary, reconsidering those disappearances based on the registered legal and technical documentation (normally the demarcation acts, topographic measurements and municipal planimetries), assigning precise coordinates to milestones and to the line between two consecutive milestones (in the case that it is not in a straight line) and in the subsequent legal ratification of the result of the works. In this way, precise coordinates of all the milestones that build each line are obtained and the outline of the boundary between each two consecutive milestones is geometrically specified, all based on the technical and legal documentation registered in the RCC. In accordance with article 43.3 of the same law, the ICV, in collaboration with the municipalities, annually plans the works and executes them. This layer shows information about the follow-up and evolution of this project. The geometries of the limit lines shown are the original ones, prior to the geometric improvement process. The technical work is carried out in collaboration with the Town Councils and with the IGN, which will ultimately supervise it. Once this phase is completed, it is published in the DOGV in the case of legally guaranteed lines or the signing of Additional Acts, in the case of provisional or partially provisional lines. Finally, the IGN is requested to update the documentation in the RCC regarding the affected lines, cartographic information and the incorporation of the resolutions approving the geometric improvements made
