Dataset description
The basic objective of the project is the preparation of an inventory of the historical mining work abandoned in several Historic Mining Districts of the Autonomous Community of Andalusia. The Mining Districts that are included in this project are: Sierra Almagro (Almería), Sierra Almagrera-Las Herrerías (Almería), Sierra Alhamilla (Almería), Villanueva del Duque-Alcaracejos (Córdoba), Río Tinto (Huelva), Tharsis (Huelva), La Carolina (Jaén), Linares (Jaén) and Mining District of El Castillo de las Guardas (Sevilla). The Inventory includes the old farms and structures generated by mining activity as a result of the research, exploitation and exploitation of mineral resources, such as wells, sinks, open pits, calicates, heaps, waste deposits, dikes, canals, etc., in which their work has been completely abandoned. The work was carried out by the consulting companies Geomare, S.A., and EPM, (Estudios y Proyectos Mineros, S.A.), commissioned by the General Directorate of Energy Industry and Mines of the Ministry of Labor and Industry of the Junta de Andalucía, under a technical assistance contract, during the years 1999-2000. The information is provided in inventory sheets where a series of information is collected regarding the old farms and the structures generated by the mining activities, to be later implemented in a database.
